End of the Year - Residence Hall Closing

Quiet Hours: Beginning on THURSDAY, April 28th at 5:00 pm, Quiet Hours will be enforced 24 hours a day until the end of the semester! Please be mindful that your fellow residents are studying, writing papers, etc. Please keep your stereos, TVs, and voices in quiet mode until the end of the semester.

When do the Residence Halls Close?

  • All non-graduating students must vacate their residence hall rooms 24 HOURS AFTER THEIR LAST EXAM or BY 5:00 PM, WEDNESDAY, MAY 4, 2011, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST.
  • The only students authorized to stay beyond this time are graduating seniors, Residence Life staff, and those approved through a faculty or staff member or who are directly involved with Commencement. Staff or faculty members outside of Residence Life will need to contact Residence Life with the request to stay in writing (by email).
  • Graduating seniors must vacate their residence hall by 5:00pm, SUNDAY, May 8, 2011.

Check Out Procedures

Failure to complete one of the following check-out procedures will result in an improper check-out fine of $50 and failure to return room key will result in an additional $35 fee.

The RA will examine your room with you and to document any changes to your Room Condition Report (RCR) since the time of move in. If any damage or cleaning issues exist, the RA will inform you of any anticipated charges. Once you have removed ALL your belongings from the room and cleaned your personal living space according to the checklist, you are ready to be checked out from the room.

  • Schedule your check-out appointment with your RA.
  • Clean your room as expected.
  • Inspect your room with the RA.
  • Sign RCR and return room key to the RA. Keys must be turned in to a staff member and cannot be left in the room or slid under a staff person's door.

All residents are expected to...

You will be responsible for each of the following tasks. Failure to satisfactorily complete these tasks will result in damage/cleaning charges assessed to EACH RESIDENT in the room/suite/apartment/house. Each resident is responsible for the condition of the common room/bathroom (suite, house or apartment).

  • Schedule a checkout appointment with your RA
  • Defrost your personal refrigerator the day before you leave and prepare it for moving.
  • Collect and remove all trash from your room. Dispose of large items (carpet, lumber, furniture, etc.) in the designated dumpsters located outside your residence hall. Do not leave anything in the halls, stairwells or bathrooms
  • Carefully remove tape, stickers, decals, etc. from all room surfaces (doors, walls, windows, etc.). Return walls to original condition.
  • Clean and wipe out all drawers, wardrobes and closets
  • Clean all room surfaces (and furniture surfaces) of any dust and dirt.
  • Sweep, vacuum and/or mop floor.
  • Close and lock windows.
  • Where applicable, clean bathrooms (shower, toilet, sink and floor) in the apartments or suites
  • Neatly arrange all furniture (reassemble your bed parts if you had a loft)

  • Take home all belongings. No storage is available on campus. The college reserves the right to dispose of all items left after checkout. Fees will be assessed if you leave anything in your room.
